In Run Lola Run, In the opening scene of the movie there are some very interesting techniques used in order to get a certain reaction out of the viewer. directly after the credits the shot fades to a coo coo clock that is sped up, which is symbolic of the time methods used later in the film.Techno music blares in the background as the mouth of the coo coo clock opens and the camera tracks into the dark whole. The camera cuts to a high slightly front lighten area surrounded by fast moving silhouettes of people. The techno music is still beating, and the combination of that, the movement, and the lighting create a feeling of suspense for the viewer. The lighting slowly becomes more prominent in the background behind the crowd of people as if what we are waiting for will be presented to us when we get to that place. A narrator speaks in German in a low ominous voice to further the suspense. A high pitched noise in the techno music begins to constantly increase in volume to signify that we are almost to the light. The silhouettes in the foreground begin to move faster and faster as the techno beats faster as well and the voice talks more. Suddenly the camera and everyone around it slows down and the lighting and camera are focused on one woman in the middle of the entire crowd, the viewers focus clearly moves to her and she turns and looks right at the camera. The camera then fades into another scene where the same lighting and camera techniques as before are being used, only this time the camera stops and focuses on a boy in a red shirt. This repeats five times until the camera finally stops on a police officer. The officer stops like all the others and looks at the camera, but then he begins to speak as if he is the narrator. He then bends down and picks up a soccer ball.he kicks the ball as the camera tracks backward to watch the kick. The camera then follows and catches up to the ball in mid air and tracks backward, and upward while looking at the top of the ball. the camera slows to a stop and, the ball overtakes the camera. The camera then focuses in on a well lit group of people forming the words LOLA RENT (Lola Run).
While this opening scene is random it shows a lot about the movie in a short amount of time. It shows normal members of society performing their everyday activities, but when the camera pulls out it shows hat the citizens could be perceived as a one entity, one whole of people working, and making one thing.
