Run Lola Run Analysis
Scene synopsis: In this scene, Lola finally gets the money from her father. Then she runs to deliver the money to the guy. On her way, she is interrupted by an orange truck. The orange truck ends up clashing to a big glass. Lola keeps on running to stop the guy before he enters the convenient store with a gun. When she arrives, she is early enough to stop the guy from entering the shop. The guy sees her, in relief, he looks at her haphazardly. Lola looks at him back. The guy starts walking towards Lola, who is still running. Lola grins back at him. Then the orange truck reappears out of the blue and directly hits the guy. Lola is stunned; she is terrified by this sudden tragedy. She doesn’t speak a word then she slowly makes steps near the guy. She holds his face covered in blood, and starts breaking up into tears.

Analysis:
There are many techniques used in this scene. At the beginning of the scene, Lola is still running. She is running beside an orange truck. The driver, who is intruded by Lola, fails to notice a giant piece of glass being carried across the street, and drives through the shallow glass. The glass shatters into tiny pieces. This foreshadows how the guy is run over by the same truck at the end. Broken glasses symbolize bad things, which, in this case, is the death of the guy.
There are mixtures of the slow motion and the normal motion of Lola running. It primarily serves to express the time limits. There are cross cutting techniques of showing both the guy taking out a gun, looking through the window of the store, and Lola running.
There is also a part where a shot of Lola running slides into the shot of the guy waiting. It is showing two split shots. The direction of Lola matches where the guy is shown to be standing in the shot. The shot of the guy is stationary while the shot of the girl is a dolly shot. Then other shot slides in under the two shots. It is a shot of a part of the clock, which serves to explain that it is 12o’ clock soon. This is shown to demonstrate the time limit.
When the guy walks across the street towards Lola, the following shot is of the orange truck driving fast. Then the next shot is a fast zoom in shot to the guy’s face. It is a POV shot of the car.
When Lola was running towards the guy, before he got run over, she was walking though the sunlight. It was a bright sunlight that some how indicated how relieved she is. However, when the guy got hit by the car, the light in the next shot of Lola changes. It is darker. There is no bright yellow light there used to be when she was running. The lighting is dependent on Lola’s emotions.
The aerial shot of the guy dead, is a full shot showing the background of the guy. He is lying down on cold cement. The color of it should look grey, however, in the film, it looks darker. The color symbolizes the death, and the bad thing that happened.

Though out this scene, everything moves on very fast. The background music has a very fast beat, it works to demonstrate the limited time Lola has. It allows the audience to feel tense. When the guy dies the background music change. It changes to much slower tempo music. Then the focus of the scene changes from Lola running to be in time, to Lola’s emotional stage and her sorrow.
