Odd, the message just popped up for me...
Its 1933. Interesting idea... although 1933 is RAPIDLY getting less and less interesting as more and more restaurants and businesses move in. Maybe we look elsewhere... :P

no no it works now you gave it to me on the usb.

hm i was thinking maybe modern day knight for our final, i saw a youtube video about a knight and i thought maybe something like that esp. using the building 1922 [1933? idk the name]
have to build on the idea later. just didn't want to forget it :) haha

For next week, please read "The Hero's Journey" from Joseph Campbell's book "The Power of Myth". I posted it above for future reference. You can also download it here (.pdf file).

This is longish. Make sure you give yourself time to read it (by next monday).
Also, please start the chapter on Sound in "Looking at Movies" - you will need to read the whole chapter, but focus on vocabulary and ideas, you can skim the examples as long as you understand the concepts.

Folks, before I grade your film analysis's please make sure you have done the following (reposted from below):

1. Use precise film language to describe the scene. If you notice some film convention that you don't know the name for, see if you can find it in your text Looking at Film, look it up online, or ask me.

2. Relate the various film conventions (lighting, mis-en-scene, costume, setting, lighting, sound, cinematography, editing, special effects, etc) to represented themes. Connect elements of historical and cultural significance within the scene to the rest of the film - and the time period/cultural/country in which it was shot.

3. Use definitive language. Don't use words like "I think", or "Maybe" .

4. Be clear about what the director intended for the scene and the rest of the film.

5. Keep description to a minimum, analysis to a maximum.

6. Don't forget to cite outside sources if you use them.

And see if you think that you've achieved the highest band for description:

21–25: There is a coherent, incisive, insightful and detailed evaluative interpretation of the extract, displaying an excellent understanding of how meaning is constructed through the use of film language, with an excellent awareness of the extract’s relationship to the film as a whole. There is a persuasive explanation for the selection of the extract. The critique shows an excellent awareness of the film’s genre and/or its place in a broader sociocultural context. There is an insightful analysis of the director’s intention. Simple description will be negligible and analysis will be clear and thorough.

Sure. Send any of them - Harrison has some experience with Final Cut, so if you know where he is that would be especially good. Thanks.
